Climate

In Northern Pakistan there are four distinct seasons as in Europe, spring, summer, autumn and winter. It is a continental climate, between the moisture coming from the Indian subcontinent and the legendary cold of Taklamakan. During summer the south side of the mountains receives the full brunt of the monsoon. August is wet up to 250mm of water, punctuated by thunderstorms, causing many landslides. The rest of the year is dry, less than 50 mm of water per month.

During summer temperatures can go over 40 degrees Celsius in Gilgit. Winter arrives in October in Hushe, temperatures exceed minus 30 in January-February.

The water level of rivers increases dramatically during the summer months. The sun melts the snow and ice, causing floods daily. To cross a river prefer morning to afternoon.

Every 1000 meters of elevation gain you lose around 6 °

Best time

Some routes are possible from spring to autumn. The month of July often alternates between rain and good weather, 4 days of terrible weather give way to 4 days of sun, etc ... Leave after 3 or 4 days of rain and you'll certainly get nice weather for your trek.

The remains of the monsoon arrives early August, and the sky is quite often blocked. Weather is mixed in September, beautiful in October.
