Go to Pakistan

By Air :

There are many flights to Pakistan, with the following companies: British, the Emirates, Qatar, Gulf Air, Pakistan Airlines ... The least expensive are the companies of the Persian Gulf.

To trek in the North, Islamabad is the best place to arrive. The capital is well connected with the rest of the country. Rely on an average of 700 to 900 € per person return depending on the period.

By land :

From Iran: Go through Zahedan and visit the border post of Taftan. The border is open from 9am to 5pm. There is a train between Quetta and Zahedan, inquire for schedules. Otherwise take a daily bus to Quetta, 650 km.

From India: There is only one crossing point for foreigners, the Atari Wagga border, between Lahore and Amritsar. It is open from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Get to the exit of the border, several buses go daily to Lahore.

From China: Go through formalities to get out of the territory in Tashkurgan; the pass is open from early May to late October. The new Karakoram road will make the crossing of the pass possible all year round.

From Afghanistan: In Kyber, arrange a taxi and an escort to cross the tribal territories. Of course inquire about the possibility to go through this area before attempting anything.

Go to the Northern mountainous areas

By plane :

Daily flights to Gilgit, Skardu and Chitral, subject to weather influences.
Count between 70 and 80 € per person return.

By bus:

You will have to go to the chaotic bus station of Rawalpindi, if you decide to go straight to the KKH (Karakoram Highway). It takes from 13 to 17 hours to reach Gilgit. Another option is to go to Peshawar, then take a bus to Chitral, count from 12 to 15 hours.

Travelling in the North

It is best to inquire on the spot. Usually many buses provide daily transportation from Skardu, Gilgit and Chitral. For the valleys off the beaten track, you can take a regular jeep, or organize a "special", jeep and driver paid for the run or per day (more expensive). Hitch hiking works very well in Pakistan ... if you pay! To be avoided by lonely girls.
