Camps up to 4000 m. Less than 15km/day, river crossing, glacier stone walking , scree slopes.
The Shishper Valley is not very popular compared to Hunza, nobody puts their feet ... Yet what beauty it reveals to those who dare to visit it.
A circus surrounded by 7000 peaks including the majestic Shishper, the west side of Bubulimating what a pleasure for mountains lovers. You have a tent, you hesitate between Rakaposhi base camp and this trek ... Don’t even ask and go to Shishper!
Moderate. This trek has some difficulty for the glacier crossing; this is far from being comparable to Batura or Hispar! Afterwards the path is well marked and pleasant.
Guide: 1000 to 1200 rps / day without tips or wapasi. Porter: ask in Karimabad, it is the best thing, there go in turns. It costs 300 rps / stage without food, 350/stage including food. Count 4 stages return.
How to get there: Organize a taxi from Aliabad, it costs 50 rps to the bridge which crosses Shishper river. The departure is on the river left bank.
Best time: May-October
Resupplying : Karimabad, Aliabad.
Day 1
Departure: 2000 m Arrival: 2950 m -70 m + 1240 Distance: 12 km Length: 6 to 8 hours
Leave from the bridge and go past the mosque, right on your left. A track goes along the valley. After 15 minutes walk, the huge rock a little higher on the left is the Ishil Boun (huge stone). Bypass it to the right along the channels. As the last channel joins the river back, go up on the side in the scree slope; watch out for falling rocks. 15 minutes later comes a small plain which ends on a beautiful landslide on the right, you can see the channel a little above. Cross spiky bushes taking the channel direction, go up the scree slope for 10 - 15 minutes. Arriving at channel level, it is easier, follow it, pass along a cliff before you can see the Baloone basa construction a little further. These are the huts of the workers responsible for maintenance.
Cross and turn right, a series of plains with stinging bushes leads straight to Shishper and Muchutshil glaciers; the first one is regarded as the man, the second one as the woman. The path along the cliffs of conglomerate rocks continues 30 minutes, it gradually joins the glacier. A little higher, blocks have collapsed; you must go around on the left entering the glacier, count 20 minutes to pass Tanum Chat (The vast cliff). 30 minutes walk extra and you will exit the glacier, right after a very steep slope. The following part is steady, on the lateral moraine, surrounded by cypresses.
Cross two valleys where streams flow before seing Taning Basa (Where we sit); it is an ideal camp after a long day. Count a 2-hour walk extra for the last camp. If you are still fit, continue, and right after Taning Basa cross a stream. The trail is quiet and offers superb views over the straight glacier of Shishper and the surrounding peaks. 45 minutes more, you reach new huts, the place is a little less pleasant than the previous camp, you are in Farang Harag (Farang hut). Do not stop there and continue another 15 to 20 minutes until the most pleasant camp throughout the valley, Dodare Harag. In the midst of a green meadow where springs flow, the view over the surrounding peaks is unforgettable.
Water : In the camp, a good spring.
Another way , take care it's vertical (description from Arzelier) !
At the exit of Aliabad follow the KKH approximately 500m, then follow right jeepable road that leads to a platform.
Directly into the wood reach a clear trail, the biggest irrigation canal. Turn left and follow the canal up to Baloon Basa (about 2 hrs from Alliabad).
You can start from Karimabad joining the channel above and following it up to Baloon Basa (since Karimabad 4h). With one stage to the plains above Balloon Basa. Direct return from Dodare Harang until Karimabad, it's a trek of 4 days without any logistics.
Water : In the camp, a good spring.
Day 2
Dodaré Harag - Viewpoint - Dodaré Harag Departure: 3150 m Arrival: 3550 m -400 m + 400 m Distance: 5 km Length return: 2 to 4 hours
Leave the camp to cross the glacier that comes from the right. 20 minutes after go up on the other side, follow the edge of the glacier during 100 meters before climbing in the small valley, there is a path on the right. The slope is steep, 30 minutes later the trail leads to a small plateau; the view over the surrounding peaks is striking. Go back on the same path.
Day 3
Dodaré Harag - KKH Bridge Departure: 2950 m Arrival: 2000 m -1240 m + 70 m Distance: 12 km Length: 5 to 6 hours
Go back the same way.
Zagartas pass 5000
An option to reach Shishper Valley. Some people told us about it in Hunza, mainly hunters. It is a very hard pass without water throughout the climb (12 to 15 hours + 2500 minimum). It gives a superb view over the surrounding peaks. It has certainly never been climbed by any Westerners, inquire in Karimabad.
Muchutsh glacier
The other glacier, which goes to the valley to the left of Shishper. A moderate to difficult trek, between 4 and 6 days, it shows unique views of Batura Wall opposite side. Inquire in Karimabad.
